Brahim Bouchelaghem

In this hip hop choreographic performance for 9 bboys and bgirl originally created for Ukrainian dancers in Kiev at the Théâtre d’Opérette in Ukraine, Brahim Bouchelaghem combines the stunning and great energy of breaking – hip hop dance – (a new discipline at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games) and the his own poetry. This new casting of Franco-Belgian dancers whose all come from the world of national and international battles, occupy a restricted playground, a white square 7 meters by 7 meters covered with video projections produced by Monsieur Nuage, creating constantly evolving graphic spaces evoking digital screens.

Brahim Bouchelaghem scrolls through the movements, the time of the game, on a music by R.ROO aka Andrey Rugaroo, Ukrainian composer. For more than an hour, the dancers will write their film in motion and transmit their wonderful energy in this play area.

An energic and captivating dance performance.

On a large blank page, nine dancers write their script by associating the hip hop dance’s energy with Brahim Bouchelaghem‘s poetry.

Company presentation

Created in 2005, the company has the same name as Brahim Bouchelaghem's first solo in tribute to his deceased father, Zahrbat, which means: the one who moves all the time, who does not stay still.
From 2007 to 2013, the company was accompanied by the CCN-Roubaix Carolyn Carlson, where Brahim was associate artist. Since 2013, Zahrbat company is located at Studio 28 in Roubaix.
The company has fourteen pieces in its repertoire, including two international premieres, in Russia and Ukraine, and has played in more than 40 countries around the world.

Brahim Bouchelaghem - Choreographer

Brahim Bouchelaghem discovered Hip Hop in 1984. Since 1992, he has performed with F. Berki, M. Merzouki, K. Attou.
In 2004, Brahim creates his first solo Zahrbat and then his company. In 2007 he meets Carolyn Carlson who supports his work until 2013. In 2011, he obtains two Golden Masks nominations in Russia, and in 2015 he receives the title of “Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres” and the medal of honorary citizen of Roubaix. Brahim still continues his work between hip hop and contemporary dance.
