Negative Space

The work on Negative Space began in the summer of 2014 in Ghent. We first built a full-scale 1:1 set using cheap materials to explore where openings could be placed. Once the cladding was done, our first action was to smash a hole in a wall. What followed was a frantic process of destruction, tearing down walls as quickly as we had built them. After four weeks of playing in this chaos, we started piecing fragments together. Out of this raw, chaotic, and dangerous energy came something we wanted to preserve. By gradually bringing structure to the whole, the performance Negative Space began to take shape.

Reckless Sleepers started in 1989 incorporated as a UK company in 1994 it is currently a group of 13 individual artists who live in different places around Europe. The company is dedicated to the production, presentation and
development of innovative contemporary visual art & performance.

Over the past 30 years Reckless Sleepers have produced many highly original performance pieces, exhibitions, installations and education programmes. The company has bases in the UK and Belgium. The company artists are all specialists in theatre making, and have additional expertise in dance, performance, visual, art, design & education.
