Autoportrait à ma grand-mère (Self-portrait to my grandmother)

Patricia Allio

For years Patricia Allio has been writing a text in which she addresses Julienne Le Breton, her grandmother from Morbihan. Through memories and recorded conversations, she raises the question of paradoxical inheritance, particularly in the form of denial and guilt. The author questions the weight of shame linked to the forbidden language, Breton, knotting and untying the intimate and the political with the notion of colonization from within. She also questions gender and the possibilities of meeting and metamorphosing. Working on memory and its sensitive materialization, alone on stage for the first time, the artist explores a timeless political question, that of transmission, touching places as fragile and intimate as shared by each of us.

I think of you often. Yet I forget what your name is. That's what you told me the last time I saw you. That's what you tell me now every time I see you. The first time it shocked me now I say to myself that it is not so serious if I am for you without a first name. I thought that in order to recognize each other you had to be able to call each other but maybe it's enough to have been named once to recognize each other without being named ?

Patricia Allio - Author, director, performer and producer

Author, director and producer associated with the TNB in Rennes, Patricia Allio likes to put the margin at the centre and to question our identity constructions in order to bring out their mutating and binding virtualities. She has been writing for the stage and the cinema since 2004 and has been leading the ICE multidisciplinary meetings in Finistère on the theme of "self-portraiture" since 2016, which she sees as a utopian laboratory on relational identity in rural environments. The sharing of our vulnerability and the possibility of human connection are indeed always at the centre of her proposals. She is currently finishing her first feature film Brûler pour briller, a medieval queer fable about the quest for the reliquary finger of Saint John the Baptist and is preparing the European revival of her play Dispak Dispac'h for 2023.
