It could be the story of a small business or a family, but it is a theater company that is at the heart of the work. In a staggeing whirlwind where reality and fiction are intertwined, an author on the run draws a gallery of portraits, of actresses and actors at work and establishes a state of the world. The world is upside down. Will the actors always be able to tell the priceless joy of being there, together? And to revive the meaning of Our lives? A theater overflowing with emotions, derision and humanity, joyful and unpredictable. A comedy.

We may be an illusion, but we can't be erased from the scenery. An actor is eternal, my friend. A fucking stinking liberal ideology can't cancan-cancel us.

Company presentation

The Barbès 35 company, created by Cendre Chassanne and Jean-Baptiste Gillet, presented "Crocodiles" at 11. during the 2019 Avignon festival and "Bovary, films are more harmonious than life" at the Théâtre des Halles in 2016.

The company promotes contemporary theater and troupe theater.

After creating Nos films, a collection of film stories with 9 actors, Cendre Chassanne wrote Nos vies inachevées at La Chartreuse Villeneuve Lez Avignon for 8 actors, a sociological comedy which was created at Le Volcan, SN du Havre in 2023.

Cendre Chassanne - Author / Metteure en scene

Cendre Chassanne is a trained actress, and she is also a stage director, an author and the Barbes 35 company artistic director.

She entered the Ecole de l'Acteur Créateur, under the aegis of Alain Knapp, then director of the TNS. The school offers training where the fields of acting and stage direction are inextricably linked. She acted and worked with Didier Ruiz, Laurent Serrano, Cécile Backès, Gérald Châtelain. She accompanied Anne Bitran and Olivier Vallet, staged Ginette Guirolle and Le nombril d'Adam, L'Histoire du Soldat, and then created the Compagnie Barbès 35. She directed texts from the classical and contemporary repertoires, she still writes and has been associated for the last few years with the Volcan, Le Havre Scène nationale where she has campaigned for a public, popular and committed theater in all territories.
