Alice Etienne et Lilas Roy
1990. At the Vatican, Christine, a Franciscan novice mourning her Mother Superior, encounters the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, queer activists who take her to Paris, into a world where faith goes hand in hand with tolerance, AIDS prevention, and extravagance. Christine discovers a new vision of selflessness and faces her dilemma: choosing the vows that will make her either a saint or a rebel.
All the grace of “Lost in Vatican”, its vital force, is to be discovered on stage: watching these five performers flood the darkness of life with fire, light, and laughter; listening to the sharp, inventive, and sometimes subversive text by Lilas Roy and Alice Etienne; and leaving convinced that a group of determined individuals can, at any moment, challenge the established order, hierarchy, and morality to save a few lives. — La Revue du Spectacle
Company presentation
Founded in 2022 by Alice Etienne and Lilas Roy, the Compagnie Lesoeurs fictionalizes its queer urgencies: depathologizing intersex experiences (Rocky 6, 2023), sanctifying the fight against AIDS (Lost in Vatican, 2026), and politicizing the experience of breast cancer (La Guerre des étoiles, 2028). Fiction is its driving force. Sisterhood, a given. Humor, essential.
Alice Etienne - Stage director / Actress
After completing a hypokhâgne with a theatre focus, Alice Etienne joined the Specialized Cycle in Dramatic Arts at the Paris Regional Conservatory. After graduating, she founded Compagnie Lesoeurs and created her first production, Rocky 6. Passionate about the structural challenges facing emerging companies, she joined La Loge in 2023. Lost in Vatican is her second creation.
Lilas Roy - Playwright / Artistic collaborator
Lilas Roy holds a degree in Political Humanities from the undergraduate college of Sciences Po Paris. In 2022, she joined the production department at La Fémis, where she continues to learn filmmaking at close range, alongside readings and internships with StudioCanal, the CNC, and Pathé. She also writes the plays for Compagnie Lesoeurs, in collaboration with Alice Etienne.
