In a country bar and tobacco shop.
Today, Mélanie returns to buy a scratch-off lottery ticket.
Today, she knows: she’s going to win big. Very big.
Because unlike us, she’s prepared herself to become rich.
With plenty of humor, tenderness, and virtuosity,
JOUR DE CHANCE speaks to both the audience and the
regulars of this bar to better address inequality of opportunity, the impossibility of social mobility, simple dreams, and class divisions.
JOUR DE CHANCE is a 50-minute one-woman show requiring no
technical equipment, designed to be performed outside traditional venues (town bars, theaters, community halls, bar entrances, etc.).
Accessibility, audience movement, interaction between
spectators, and the deconstruction of class prejudice are
core principles woven into the very fabric of this performance.
You don't half-heartedly scratch with a 10 cent coin on the corner of a table. Being rich takes work!
Company presentation
The company Modes d’emploi, directed by Johanne Débat, sensitively, playfully, and dynamically questions our society and its rules. Through a creative process that intertwines improvisation, devised theatre, and table writing, along with playful and theoretical research, the company tackles societal, philosophical, and political questions, transforming them into accessible yet challenging theatrical fictions.
This approach explores the absurdity of the world through humor and critical insight, within a dynamic aesthetic.
Johanne DEBAT - Direction
With a background in literature and directing, Johanne Débat founded Compagnie Modes d'emploi in 2014 and has developed a politically charged and mischievous style of stage writing. Two of her productions—Les Manigances and Incroyable mais vrai—benefited from writing residencies at the Chartreuse de Villeneuve-lès-Avignon. In 2024-2025, Johanne Débat was mentored by the company La Chair du Monde, directed by Charlotte Lagrange, as part of the DRAC mentorship program. She is currently working on a new project, "Manger les chevaux" (Eating Horses), a model of which was presented in December 2025 at the TGP-CDN in Saint-Denis.
Manika AUXIRE - Actress
Claire MARX - Artistic collaboration
Claire Marx has built her career at the crossroads of stage theatre, circus and forms in public space, alongside companies as diverse as Modes d'Emploi, Compagnie des Attentifs and Collectif du Prélude
