Plexus Polaire
Dracula – Lucy’s Dream
Yngvild Aspeli
In her visual adaptation of the famous myth of Dracula, Yngvild Aspeli chooses to freely draw inspiration from the story of Bram Stoker to focus more particularly on women. The show thus focuses on the experience of the character of Lucy – and her fight against her inner demon embodied by Dracula, who then represents domination, dependence, addiction to a destructive force. A metaphor of control, both forced and desired, seductive and deceptive.
The audience embarks on an intimate and psychic journey, in this phantasmagorical universe that Lucy has built for herself, in which she has plunged and against which she fights.
There are mysteries which men can only guess at, which age by age they may solve only in part. Strange things, extraordinary things, things that make you doubt if you are mad or sane. But don't you think that there are things which you cannot understand, and yet which are?
Company presentation
Yngvild Aspeli, artistic director of Plexus Polaire, develops a visual world that brings our most buried feelings to life. The use of life-sized puppets is at the center of her work, but the actor’s performance, the presence of the music and the use of light and video are all equal elements in communicating the story.
Within Plexus Polaire, she has directed: Signals (2011), Opera Opaque (2013), Ashes (2014), Chambre noire (2017), Moby Dick (2020), Dracula (2022) – and soon, A Doll’s House that will premiere in Autumn 2023.
