Centriphery
Celebration pre-construction
Mezzo Atelier (Giacomo Mezzadri & Joana Oliveira), Balkis Moutashar, Fred Nevché, Rayna Teneva
The curtains of the balconies of Saint-Chamand, blown by the Mediterranean mistral, lead five artists from Europe – two architects, a visual artist, a choreographer and a poet – to meet those who live there. Behind the doors and windows, behind the faces, what is the smell of food cooking, what are the words to that song, the steps of that dance?
Inside, they share images, stories, recipes and gestures.
Outside, it will be a performance, a temporary architecture, a ritual, a shared meal, and maybe even the hit of the summer. A celebration of a territory in transformation, with and by its inhabitants.
Five European artists take you to the Saint-Chamand district and its inhabitants for 3 evenings of collective celebration, between music, dance, poetry, temporary architecture and cuisine.
Company presentation
Centriphery is a project of artistic encounters between nine cultural organisations and eighteen artists based in decentralised regions of Europe.
As each periphery is its own centre, Centriphery gives the citizens of the "periphery" a central voice in the exploration and transformation of local myths and allows them to participate in the re-creation of local identities and European narratives.
With the support of the European Commission's Creative Europe programme
Mezzo Atelier (Giacomo Mezzadri & Joana Oliveira) - Architects
Giacomo Mezzadri and Joana Oliveira are Mezzo Atelier, a young Italian/Portuguese practice working both as a studio and as a practical laboratory.
Fred Nevché - Poet/Musician
Fred Nevché is a poet, a musician and a singer. Attached as much to his origins - he was born of an Armenian father and a Spanish mother - as to Marseille and its cosmopolitanism, he lives there and is inspired by it. He also co-founded the cultural cooperative Grand Bonheur, which produces records and shows, directs Avec le temps, Marseille's French-language festival, and supports emerging artists.
Balkis Moutashar - Choreographer
Balkis Moutashar has had an eclectic career as a dancer, crossing the worlds of contemporary dance, music hall, theatre, performance and electronic music. She created her company in 2009 in Marseille, after various personal works exploring territories between dance and visual arts.
Rayna Teneva - Visual artist
Rayna Teneva (1986) is a Bulgarian visual artist and filmmaker. Rayna concentrates her photographic work in investigating social engaged narrations which are close to the themes of identity, archive, and aging as a metaphor of a socio-political change.
