RECLAIM

Théâtre d'Un Jour

RECLAIM

Patrick Masset

RECLAIM is an imaginary ritual freely inspired by the Ko’ch in Central Asia, where women attempt to build an egalitarian relationship with men in order to propose a fairer world to future generations.

What is proposed here is not a show, but a collective experience. This project is seen as a necessity, a form of secular prayer. A moment outside of norms to be experienced as a return to the theater of origins, characterized by wildness, the circle, strangeness, sometimes monstrosity, hyper-closeness and fear.

A lyric singer, two cellists, and five circus performers in acrobatic lifts are literally surrounded by the stands and the audience, in an unsettling closeness.

RECLAIM is an act of resistance that signifies becoming capable of reclaiming, of re-appropriating what we have been separated from.

The future is not what is going to happen, but what we are going to do

Patrick Masset - Directing and writing

Patrick Masset founded the Théâtre d’Un Jour in 1994. A stage director with a bachelor's degree in philosophy, Patrick Masset comes from a theatrical background and is passionate about hand-to-hand acrobatics. He defends a transdisciplinary theater rooted in reality.

In 2008, he created "The Child who...", a show centered around the sculptor Jephan de Villiers and his creations, which was performed over 300 times. With "Strach - a fear song," he follows two desires: to bring together circus and opera, and to rediscover a circus of origins, wild and strange.

His latest project, "Reclaim," is an imaginary ritual where writing and dramaturgy lead the work of bodies and voices towards a fundamentally artistic proposition, rather than just a technical demonstration.
