Les aveugles

Julien Dubuc

Twelve blind individuals wait, motionless, in a very ancient forest—seemingly eternal—beneath a deeply starry sky. They watch for the return of their guide, a priest. Through their words, they fill the silence. The crisis erupts when they realize they have been left to fend for themselves.

This group represents humanity as a whole—hesitant and unaware of its condition—waiting for an uncertain future while relying on outside help to guide it.

In this original immersive adaptation, twelve audience members take their place on stage, equipped with virtual reality headsets. Through this device, they are immersed in a raw and poetic universe. A major creation by INVIVO in 2021, winner of the Future Is Sensible Prize at the 2022 Geneva International Film Festival (GIFF), The Blind is presented for the first time at the Avignon OFF Festival, after more than 300 performances.

Company presentation

Everything begins with the space and the audience’s perceptions, as a way to create new forms of storytelling. It's about crafting theatrical experiences that engage with the pressing issues of our societies and invite us to imagine new possibilities. It places great care on immersion in a constant effort to blur the boundary between fiction and reality. Driven by a commitment to ongoing artistic innovation, it seeks to break free from theatrical conventions while placing strong emphasis on creating sensitive and collective experiences.

Sceneweb - Vincent Bouquet

“A sensitive, almost visceral connection is established with the Belgian playwright’s text, and this production succeeds in captivating the audience.”

Sceneweb - Vincent Bouquet

“The stage design is impressive.”

Sceneweb - Vincent Bouquet

“By exploring the theme of blindness and immersing the audience in a 3D graphic universe of distorted forms, the VR play *Les aveugles* offers a new theatrical experience, where the spectrum of individual perception fuels the collective resonance of the narrative.”
