Jubilä
Leïla Martial
A solo for a multi-tempered vocalist
Alone on stage, Leila Martial, draped in her character Jubila, the child-clown and the souful woman, explores her inner space. Evoking Bach when blowing into a miniature bottle, going from French to Chinese to one of those absurd languages that only she masters, the artist, gifts us an intensely personal performance where jubilation radiates every expanse of the body, soul and spirit.

Leïla Martia
Leila Martial, born in the 80s, was steeped in music from her earliest childhood. Her playful, mischievous nature allowed her to draw naturally from multiple forms of expression, cons-tructing bridges between worlds. Fascinated by the vocal techniques of distant ethnic groups and the magnitude of possibilities to express sound, she little by little developed an unconventional style of singing, blending jazz phrasings, imaginary languages and various other vocal techniques. She has received numerous awards throughout her career (Ist Place Soloist, Jazz La Defence 2009, Ist Place, Crest Jazz Vocal 2023, Best Record, Jazz Academy and Best Vocalist, Victoires du Jazz 2023). Improvisation is her cardinal passion and her creative quirkiness sets her apart in the jazz world. She has also explored the art of the clown, culminating in the creation of her first one woman show, Jubila, a solo for a multi-toned vocalist. A performance which gathers together all her various facets and where she breaks free of any and all constraints.
She continues to experiment and tours with several projects (JUBILÄ, FiL, a duo with Valen-tin Ceccaldi, ÄKÄ-free voices of forest (an inter-cultural project), Oliphantre (Italy), Atrahasis (Octotrip), Baa Box, Orchestre National de Jazz …) always ready to grab her backpack, and set out on the road toward the men and women who inspire her.
