She says, “I’m the bait. You’re justice. We have to do something, Sam.” I hide behind a dumpster. The guy turns down the alley, and Kate takes a step toward him, running her hand along the damp wall. She laughs. He practically jumps on her. He pushes her against the wall. It’s so brutal I can hear Kate’s head hitting the brick. He pins her arms, kisses her neck. “Gently,” she says, “gently.” He doesn’t listen. She says it again: “Gently.” He doesn’t stop. I have to get us out of here. I look around for something, anything to protect her. And that’s when I see it: there’s a hammer on the floor, by the wall. I’m overcome by a surge of confidence. My hands stop shaking. I feel the cold weight of the hammer in my palm, and I move behind him, as quietly as possible. Kate moans. I aim the hammer straight at the guy’s shoulder blade, right where his heart should be, I hold my breath, I steel myself, and then: …
Sam and Kate are inseparable. When Kate’s sister is attacked, they decide to avenge her. One summer night, they lure the man responsible into an alley… and steal his heart.
Thrown into the depths of a river, that heart continues to beat, opening a strange breach in reality and in their friendship.
“I Never...” is a fantasy tale about justice, guilt, and the dizzying experience of discovering one's true self.
Company presentation
Youtheatre aims to engage its audience by presenting theater that speaks to them, challenges them, and inspires them to reflect—all while ensuring they are entertained. Its focus is on creating and producing new works by Canada’s leading playwrights.
Véa - Director
Véa is a multidisciplinary artist who blends theater and film in her many projects. She holds a degree in Theater Studies from the Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris III University. From 2005 to 2010, she directed the theater company she founded, Calliopé. Between 2010 and 2012, she worked in Paris and London, primarily in the theater world. From 2017 to 2019, she served as artistic director of the technology company Neweb Labs, where she worked on the Maya Kodes project, a real-time holographic singer. Also active in the field of digital and visual arts, Véa conceptualized a museum exhibit for the MEM—Centre des mémoires montréalaises.
She is a co-founder of Productions UP, a company that produces concerts and audiovisual content and manages artists. Véa also works independently as an artistic director on various projects in the fields of music, dance, film, digital art, and theater. Since 2019, she has been the co-artistic and executive director of the Youtheatre theater company in Montreal. The show J'ai Jamais..., which she directed, is currently touring Quebec and has been performed more than 70 times by the end of the 2025–2026 season. J’ai Jamais… will be presented for the first time in France during the Festival OFF d’Avignon in the summer of 2026. In 2026, Véa directed Youtheatre’s new production, Attention, coup de feu!, at the Maison Théâtre, and the show already has more than a dozen performance dates scheduled for the 2026–2027 season. Active in her community, Véa has also been a member of the Maison Théâtre board of directors since 2023.
After directing more than fifteen music videos, her career as a filmmaker took off thanks to the medium-length film *Pandora*, which she produced through the two companies she heads. It was this 47-minute single-take sequence that enabled her and her team to secure a deal with the French-language national broadcaster Télé-Québec to produce a trilogy of three films in the same format. These films have won several awards in Quebec—including the Numix Award and the Gémeaux Award—as well as internationally.
