Janaina Leite, Georges Bataille
In a loose adaptation of the famous short story “The Story of the Eye” by French author Georges Bataille (1897-1962), Janaina Leite explores the relationship between theater and pornography, a recurring theme in her recent productions. The play uses the book’s structure to tell, in a blend of fiction and non-fiction, the story of three teenagers and their sexual discoveries. She recreates, in a fairy-tale setting, this dark fable oscillating between the vulgar and the sublime, the banal and the cosmic, the ordinary and the abysmal.
This project is presented by the Brazilian Federal Government and sponsored by Petrobrás, with production by the Olhares Cultural Institute and the SÚ Association for Culture and Education.
Janaina Leite adapts Georges Bataille, exploring theatre, eroticism and youth in a hybrid and daring production.
