J’aurais aimé savoir ce que ça fait d’être libre (I wish I knew how it would feel to be free)

Chloé Lacan

“There are people you never meet and yet they are with you all your life. Nina Simone came into my life as a teenager, at the troubled moment of metamorphosis, the age when family is no longer enough and being yourself is a combat sport. On paper, everything separates us: the time, the country, the skin color, the struggle, the character, the tessitura even, and yet, I drew from this difference much more than the desire to make music: undoubtedly the strength to become and accept who I am.”

Chloé Lacan tells her Nina Simone story and, through her, evokes her own memories of childhood and of a woman in the making. With the multi-instrumentalist Nicolas Cloche, they explore in two voices this so particular link that we weave with the artists who cross our lives. To the fantasized portrait of Nina Simone is mixed the musical story of an adolescence. The duet, with its abundant inventiveness, tells, sings, plays and takes a very personal look at the repertoire and destiny of this exceptional musician.

It's funny, everything separates me from Nina Simone, the country, the period, the skin color, the struggle, the character, the very range, and yet there is this one tiny thing, like a flutter of her wings that always screams at me how important it is not to be silent, ever...

In the press

An intimate interlude, which tends towards the universal, full of vivacity, intensity and humor, accompanied by the multi-instrumentalist musician Nicolas Cloche, who also gives his (beautiful) voice with her.

Télérama

Chloé Lacan's voice is very well suited to Nina Simone's blues, without trying to imitate her for a second; she manages to instill a deep sincerity. And in this game, the multi-instrumentalist Nicolas Cloche who accompanies her on stage also succeeds marvelously with his voice, his ukulele or his piano.

France Info

Chloé Lacan and Nicolas Cloche combine their multiple talents to take us on a musical journey full of inventiveness, a joyful and irreverent epic on the quest for self. [...] A spirited show whose strength seems to infuse, slowly penetrating the doors, leaving the spectator amazed by the virtuosity of these two artists.
