La Patinoire (the Rink)
(départ 2 rue des écoles), France
Invested by the teams of La Manufacture since 2008, this ice rink of the 60s allowed us, with our technical teams led by Eric Blondeau, to offer many singularities in the way of thinking of the Festival Off, while developing during the festival and to the year a project of participatory and collaborative territory. This unusual place, located in the district of Saint-Chamand, is the largest plateau of Festival Off totaling an area of 2500 m2 and can accommodate 180 spectators.
The first singularity in imagining a place located in the periphery, with shuttles organized from and to downtown, was to offer a moment of breathing to the public before and after each show. This break changes the conditions of reception and assimilation of artistic projects. A maximum opening of 25 meters, a depth of 15 meters, a motorized grill and the surface of a half ice hockey field available extra have given us another singularity, the ability to store decors not disassembled on wheels, what the downtown location does not allow. Finally, third singularity, 40 minutes are proposed to the teams between each show, which allows a peaceful management of the changes of board.
Recently taken over by a new owner, La Patinoire will be renovated in different aspects and will offer an increased gauge and new features and spaces from July 2020. It is accessible by the Manufacture shuttle bus (from rue des Écoles) and by tram from 2020.
