Munstrum Théâtre

Both trained at the “Conservatoire National Supérieur d’Art Dramatique” in Paris, Lionel Lingelser and Louis Arene (former actor at the « Comédie-Française ») founded the Munstrum Théâtre in Alsace in 2012. The singularity of their work is conveyed in the création of powerful visual and poetic worlds serving strong societal thematics (ecology : “L’Ascension de Jipé” and “Clownstrum”) or contemporary writings (Marius von Mayenburg, Copi). The Munstrum claims an ambitious esthetical reasoning. Light engineer, composer, stage designer, visual artist… all these contributors have an essential role throughout the creative process. A slightly futuristic theatre, nocturnal, comical and unusual, rises up from darkness and chaos. A thin second skin modifies the actor’s faces and reveals strange creatures that link us to our deepest humanity. Fragile ghosts that unsettle us through their cruelty or innocence. On the edge of the supernatural, reality warps into a puzzling twilight. Offering a deep dive inside ourselves, the masks confront us with our own monsters. Through a distorted looking-glass effect, the monster onstage becomes the monster inside each of us. Since september 2018, Lionel Lingelser and Louis Arene are associated artists with « La Filature, Scène nationale – Mulhouse”. They created there « L’Ascension de Jipé » (2014), « Le Chien, la Nuit et le Couteau » (2016) et « Clownstrum » (2018).
